B6 plays a valuable role in the liver by converting a type of cancer promoting estrogen into less harmful anti-cancer metabolites. B6 is very useful in the management of PMS, as well as the nausea and vomiting that may accompany pregnancy. Oral contraceptives often increase the need for vitamin B6. The depression some experience on oral contraceptives can be helped with 40mg per day of B6. A five-month study with 76 asthmatics showed that 200mg per day of B6 lead to a reduction in the need for bronchodilators and asthmatic medications.
Folic acid is used to prevent birth defects and it may have particular application in the prevention and treatment of post-partum depression. Increased intake of folic acid may help protect against colorectal cancer.
Vitamin B12 has been found useful as a treatment for asthma, depression, nerve pain, low blood pressure, elevated homocysteine and promoting mental wellness. Vegetarians are particularly susceptible to low B12 levels, as B12 is found exclusively in animal products. Older adults are often low in vitamin B12, and it is known to be a cause of dementia in the elderly. Gastric acid is required for absorption, so that people on drugs to lower acid may become deficient.
Elevated homocysteine levels are felt to be the number one cause of strokes and heart attacks, and may contribute to Alzheimers. It makes blood vessels sticky, thereby predisposing them to plaque and clot formation. Cardio Health has all four elements required to lower homocysteine: methylated folic acid, vitamin B6, methylated vitamin B12, and trimethylglycine.
Specifically formulated to reduce high homocysteine levels (considered a major risk factor for heart attacks and strokes). Also for brain health (prevention of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease), female health, and depression.
